The Samsung WA56H9000AP is part of the Washing Machinetest program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, Washing Machinemodels like the WA56H9000AP are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.Washing performance: This reflects the degree of color change to swatches of fabric that were included in an 8-pound test load of mixed cotton items using the machines' most aggressive normal cycle. (We do not use special cycle or option buttons.)Energy efficiency: This score is based on the energy needed to heat the water for 8-pound loads using a warm wash and cold rinse. We consider both gas and electric water heaters, and include electricity needed to run the washer and energy needed for drying. Washers that extract more water are scored higher.Water efficiency: This score denotes how much water it took to wash our 8-pound load. On models that didn't set the fill level automatically, we used the lowest fill setting that sufficed for the 8-pound load. We then calculated water used per pound of clothing.

Results in the following chart are gathered from Consumer Reports’ 2018 Fall Survey of 22,324 top-load HE washers, owned by members who purchased a new machine between 2008 and 2018.Our predicted brand reliability ratings are based on a statistical model that estimates problem rates within the first 5 years of ownership, for top-load HE washers that are not covered by an extended warranty or service contract. We also adjust for the median number of loads of laundry run through the machines per week. The median in our survey was 5 loads per week. Higher ratings are indicative of better reliability.

Brands receiving a red or orange rating cannot be recommended by CR at this time. Our owner satisfaction ratings are based on the proportion of members who are extremely likely to recommend their top-load HE washer brand to friends and family. TypeType Front-loading washers - With a door located on the front of the washer, one needs to stoop in order to load it. Front-loaders get clothes clean by tumbling them into water. Clothes are lifted to the top of the tub, then dropped into the water below. This design reduces water and energy use and makes front-loaders gentler on clothing and more adept at handling unbalanced loads. Be aware that front-loading washers give best results when used with high-efficiency detergent, which produces fewer suds than regular detergent.

They're typically 27 to 29 inches wide.Conventional top-loading washers - With the opening on the top of the washer, top-loaders are somewhat easier to load than a front-loading washer. Most top-loaders allow you to fill the tub with enough water to cover the clothing. Because they need room to move the laundry around the agitator to ensure thorough cleaning, these machines have a smaller load capacity than front-loaders.

They're typically 27 to 29 inches wide.Unconventional top-loading washers - These look much like conventional top-loaders on the exterior, but these machines typically replace the usual vertical agitator post with other wash mechanisms, such as disks or plates that lift and move clothing around the tub. They generally use less water, and thus less energy, than conventional top-loaders and often have a larger capacity. They provide best results when used with high-efficiency detergent, which produces fewer suds than regular detergent.

Jon B, did you even read the complaint? The problem is not about the detergent not dispensing, it is about the softener dispensing too early.

I, too, am having this problem on a Kenmore Elite Model 4154 washer. I have read the bit about over filling and closing the door too fast and, while I didn't see how either of those could cause the problem (just look at how the fabric softener dispenser is constructed), I tried less softener and slowly closing the door, both to no avail. Anybody else have a clue? I do not intend to be confrontational but, what sense does adding the softener and detergent at the same time make?

The softener is intended to be released into the washer during the rinse cycle. Most of the older top load models had you add fabric softener to the center agitator which would then be released into the tub during the spin cycle and thus be added to the rinse cycle which followed.

Now, if your answer is that it drains from the dispenser into a holding tank until the rinse cycle, then that would make sense. Thanks for contacting ManageMyLife.com. I recommend pulling out the dispenser drawer and thoroughly cleaning it as the first step in troubleshooting this problem. Restricted flow through this dispenser drawer could be causing your problem.Pull the dispenser drawer out to its fully extended position. There is a release catch at the back of the drawer that will allow you to completely remove the dispenser. Activate this release and pull the dispenser completely out.

Pull the inserts out of the dispenser and thoroughly wash the entire dispenser drawer. Replace the inserts. Before replacing the drawer in the dispenser housing, unplug the washer and thoroughly clean the housing area. A buildup of residue in the housing can also inhibit water flow and may prevent soap from being thoroughly flushed from the dispenser. After cleaning the dispenser housing, replace the dispenser drawer. Test the dispenser to see if it is working properly. If you are still having problems, turn off the water supply faucets and check the screens that are on the back of the washer where the inlet water hoses connect to the unit.

Debris or sand can inhibit water flow and could prevent detergent from dispensing properly. If you have to pull these screens out and clean them, be careful when putting them back in place. If debris or sand gets past these screens, it can corrupt the inlet water valves and cause them to fail or leak. Unplug the washer and flush or rinse this area thoroughly with water before replacing the screens. While the water supply hoses are disconnected from the washer, place the ends of the hoses in a bucket and turn on the water supply faucets briefly to check the water flow from the hoses. Make sure that water flow is normal from the hoses. Reconnect the hoses and test the washer. If you are still having problems with dispensing soap after conducting the troubleshooting described above, you could have a restriction in the hose from the dispenser to the tub or you could have a problem with the inlet solenoid valves.

A serious restriction in water flow through the dispenser and into the washer normally results in a fault code on the display. If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. My LG machine does this too. When you take apart the fabric softener dispenser top: IF there is bubbles in the top from the previous wash.it will drain immediately when filled with softener. If you dry out the top or the machine sits idle for long enough the bubbles break/dry out and the dispenser stays filled. Sadly my previous LG machine did NOT have this problem so they changed their design a little and now its a pain in the A55! I suspect that shortening the bottom siphon tube by millimetres and not filling the last 2 mm at the top would improve the situation, or using a more viscous fabric softener.

My LG machine does this too. I found by taking apart the dispenser': IF there is bubbles in the top from the previous wash.it will drain immediately when filled with softener. If you dry out the top or the machine sits idle for long enough the bubbles break/dry out and the dispenser stays filled. Sadly my previous LG machine did NOT have this problem so they changed their design.

My working solution is to cycle the dispenser first by pouring hot water though it, once it completely drains, the bubbles are usually gone and it stay properly filled once filled with softener. I have a brand new Samsung with the wash basin under the lid. It has done the same thing! It is not dirty. It is not cracked. I have not over filled it. The WASHER IS BRAND NEW!

I am really taken aback by the sarcastic remarks made to someone looking for answers exactly like I am. That is what brought me here! This is a defect in the manufacturing of these washers! Now that I know I am not the only one with this problem I will call the company I purchased it from and have them come out three times then get it replaced!

Older washers don't have this issue. So much for SMART TECHNOLOGY!
